Summer is officially here, and with it comes summer camps! If you’re considering sending your kids to a summer camp, but aren’t sure what to do to get the ready, keep reading.
Talk to your kids about summer camp
One of the simplest, yet most overlooked ways of getting your kids ready is simply talking to them about it. Ask them how the feel and what their expectations are. You may find you can calm their nerves by simply answering a few of their questions and reassuring them they’ll have a good time. It's also a great way to get them excited and prepped!
To get the best reaction, ask them questions like “What will you enjoy doing the most at camp?” or “What do you want to create?” By framing the entire activity in a positive light, you’ll increase their chances of having a positive experience.
Take your kids with you to tour the camp
You’ll most likely want to take a look around the potential camps you’re considering. When you go for a tour, bring the kids along. Not only will they feel important by being included, it will also help them understand where everything is and how it’s going to work. Let them choose what kind of activity they like or what they want to learn.
Meet the camp instructors
Before deciding on a camp, go have a chat with the instructors and the whole team your kids will be interacting with. Again, be sure to include your kids when meeting these people so they won’t be meeting them for the first time on their first day at camp. Having a positive experience with the people they’re going to be spending a lot of time with will help them ease into camp.
Do camp-based activities with your kids
One way to get them excited for summer camp is by doing similar activities they’ll be doing at camp. You could play with an educational toy like the Dot Robot to get them started learning programming and STEM skills. Also, watching camp based movies with them will get them excited to meet new kids and learn cool things. This will keep the mind active throughout the summer!
Hopefully these tips will help you get your kids ready and excited for summer camp! If you’re still looking for a good day camp for your kids, consider some of our new summer camps.
