MakerKids for Educators & at OLA Conference

We are excited to report that for the next few days (Jan 30-31) we will be running a pop-up makerspace at the OLA Conference, also in partnership with Kids Learning Code. We will also be keynoting this conference, and doing another speech Saturday morning. Come check us out! To see the pop-up makerspace you can register for an expo-only pass for only $40. You can find out more at the OLA website. In time for OLA, we are launching our new page for educators: http://makerkids.ca/educators. Check it out, and see the info copied below for your convenience.

Programs for Parents, Educators, Librarians, and Other Interested Adults:

Educators Night

Would you like to help more kids be makers? Are you an teacher, educator, librarian, parent, or interested adult who wants to learn about how MakerKids gets kids involved with crafting, tinkering, and making things? This open shop is great for people who want to learn more about making different things, and about working on them with children! We can help teach you new skills and how to use high tech tools safely with kids. You can learn about woodworking, electronics, programming, 3D modelling and 3D printing, Arduino (an open source microcontroller), MaKey MaKey (easy to use invention kit where you can even turn bananas into a keyboard), crafts, sewing, soft circuitry and wearable technology, and more! You'll get hands-on experience and learn through doing, not just talking. You can also take home what you make - we just ask that you pay for any materials you use/take home. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about MakerKids, explore possibilities for volunteering, and meet interesting people. We've had people come from as far away as London and Montreal for this program. Register here: http://www.eventbrite.ca/e/makerkids-educator-nights-wednesdays-tickets-9756956319?aff=eorg

Professional Development, Consulting and Speaking

We offer professional development, consulting and speaking, with past clients including the Toronto Public Library. We can help you learn how to teach maker activities to kids (e.g. 3D printing, Arduino, robotics, and more), how to set up a makerspace for kids, what supplies to buy, and more. We also have spoken at various conferences and events such as Maker Faire Rome, Maker Faire Toronto, the Creative Making Conference at the University of Toronto, Make2Learn in Chicago, and more. If you are interested in having us do professional development, consulting or speaking, email info@makerkids.ca.
