Focus can be a skill to be mastered and all of us need to check in every now and then. Here are some simple productivity tips for kids.
Create a Family Calendar
Planning shouldn’t be exclusive to adults. Hang a calendar in the family room or kitchen where everyone can see it. Have your kids help come up with events and due dates, and they’ll be more likely to want to complete the task – they did help set it up, after all!
Exercise with Them
You’ve probably been preached to (or at least read about) the massive productivity benefits of exercise. That’s true for your kids, too! A little running around in the yard or a quick bike ride will help them focus on the task at hand and keep them from getting distracted as easily.
Let Them Pick What They Want to Do
I don’t mean let them do whatever they want. If they have homework in multiple subjects, let them pick the subject they’d like to start with. If there are chores to be done, let them pick which chores they want to do first. By giving them a little control, you’re encouraging them to take responsibility. They will feel more motivated to get it done if they have a say!
Hold a Family Meeting
Once a week, hold a meeting of the entire family. Have snacks and drinks ready. Discuss your family goals and – again – give your kids some say! Let them pick their own goals (with some coaxing in the right direction, of course). They’ll feel proud when they manage to hit their goals, and you’re giving them positive habits to keep for the rest of their lives.
Feed Them Good Food
It can be hard to focus when you’re hyped up on sugar or are suffering an empty stomach. Feed them some brain foods to keep their minds sharp and their head on the task!
