MakerKids Announces B Corp Certification and Scholarships on GivingTuesday
Makerspace for kids meets higher standards of social impact and provides scholarships.
TORONTO - Dec 1, 2015 - On GivingTuesday, MakerKids Inc is proud to announce that it has received certification as a B Corporation because of its commitment to meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This prestigious designation has also been awarded to companies such as Etsy, Patagonia, and Ben and Jerry's.
In celebration of this commitment, 10% of all purchases made on the MakerKids website on December 1st will go towards creating scholarships for low income families to come to MakerKids programs.
“Since its inception, MakerKids has strived to be at the forefront of creating programs that help children move from being consumers to creators, through learning robotics, coding, video game making, 3D printing, Minecraft, electronics, and more. We are thrilled to join other socially conscious Certified B Corps and work towards creating a better future for all.” - Jennifer Turliuk, CEO of MakerKids.
In order to become a Certified B Corporation, MakerKids underwent rigorous testing and evaluation in order to evaluate how its practices impact employees, community, customers, and the environment. B Corp certification is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk. B Corps are a new type of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
